Basically, take notes on who to watch out for and who the weak players are.A reasonably ambitious note could be: " Strong, tight/aggressive. Raising with suited connectors from late position. Always bets out on flop and turn after pre-flop raise. Try to raise him on turn when no draws are out. Slow playing works good against him." Below are some general areas of interest to take notes on:
- Tight or loose
· Playing Ace-rag off suit and/or lots of connectors
· Calling pre-flop raises with very weak hands
- Aggressive or passive
· Betting draws aggressively
· Always betting out as pre-flop raiser
- Winning or loosing player
- Defends blinds or not
- "Tricky" or straight forward
· Check-raising
· Betting on semi-bluffs
· Slow-playing strong hands
Tournament notes are typically harder to make, as many players change gears completely during the course of the tournament. But you can often easily assess if a player is strong or weak. In tournaments you can often make more plays on strong opponents early on. Many tight players do not defend blinds and fold to bets unless they have a very good hand. You can actually push around many of the strong players early on as they usually play very carefully.
